World Series Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extended clash that saw the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a total over 50 million viewers across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this represents the most-watched Fall Classic finale since the 1991 contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest drew 27.33 million viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement over the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game was 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th place.

International Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game averaged 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language program in Canada since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – averaged over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience growth for two straight years.

Counting the opening game broadcast on Univision, the complete American viewership reached 16.1M. The total World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million watchers, an 8% increase compared to last year and Fox’s best playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
